Advice, Information & Support over Christmas

Throughout the holiday season, there are a number of other ways to get advice, information and support for you and your family:

Bank Holidays over this period are December Monday 26th, Tuesday 27th and Monday January 2nd

Some Sutton Warm Spaces


Belmont Connect will be offering a Warm welcome over the winter during their Drop In sessions, with warm drinks, snacks and free wifi.  Outside of these times you can find warm spaces at all the Sutton Libraries (check the opening times for your local library here).  Other organisations in Sutton (e.g. churches) are also setting up warm spaces/sessions which can be found on this map.  

If you need urgent assistance regarding caring for someone, including safeguarding or covering care for an adult or child, please contact the London Borough of Sutton 24-hour Duty team via 020 8770 5000.  


In an emergency, please always call 999, and for health advice, call 111 or speak to your pharmacist or GP.   

National, Carer-specific support: 

  • Carers UK Helpline 0808 808 7777 - 9am-6pm Monday to Friday  (including Christmas Eve, Bank Holiday Monday and New Year's Eve).  Their email advice service ( will be available with a reduced service from 21-23 December, and will be closed 24 December to 3 January.


  • Carers UK online Forum is available throughout the whole of the holiday period, for support, or to talk with other Carers:   


  • Carers Direct Helpline 0300 123 1053 - 9am-8pm Monday to Friday and 11am-4pm on weekends (excluding bank holidays).

Local support available over Christmas: 

  • For Information and Advice during the holiday period please call 020 8254 2616 or complete the web form on the Together for Sutton website Submissions will be monitored by our colleagues at Citizens Advice Sutton.  This service will close at on December 23rd and then be closed on Bank Holidays.  A telephone service will operate on 28th, 29th and 30th December 2022 and will re-open for normal services on the 4th of January 2023.​

  • Citizens Advice Sutton will be closed from 12pm on Friday 23rd December for in person and phone contact until 9am on Tuesday 3rd January.  During this period, urgent issues about welfare and benefits, housing, access to emergency food provision or care, for example, will be monitored via their web message form.   

  • Age UK Sutton 020 8078 0002 will be open 9.30-5.30pm for essential-only service during normal hours Monday - Friday (excluding bank holidays) via phone or via their website  


Mental Health - Adult Carers and Young Adult Carers aged 18 and over: 


  • SW London & St George's Mental Health NHS Trust Crisis Line 0800 028 8000 - 24 hours a day for support and advice in a crisis, for yourself or the person you care you for.

  • Sutton Crisis Cafe is open 365 days a year from 6.30pm to 11pm (last admission 10.30pm).  Click here to complete referral or call 0800 012 9082.  

  • The Mind Infoline 0300 123 3393 - for mental health information, advice and signposting to other services, 9am-6pm Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays.

  • Samaritans can be contacted on 116 123 to receive emotional support, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. 


  • If, sadly, you have been bereaved, then please contact Cruse Bereavement Care. They are a charity dedicated to helping people who are experiencing grief.  You can contact them through their main helpline on 0808 808 1677. Please note that the helpline will be open every day across the Christmas period, with alternating opening hours that can be found here


Mental Health - Young Carers and Young Adult Carers aged 11 to 25: 


  • SLP CAMHS Crisis Line 0203 228 5980 - Monday to Friday 5pm-11pm; weekends and Bank Holidays 9am-11pm for children and young person, or parent/carers concerned about a young person’s mental health.

  • If you are aged 11 to 25 and need mental health support and counselling, contact our partners at Off the Record who are operating a helpline from 24th December - 2nd January, 3-6pm (including Christmas Day) on 0800 980 7475

  • If you are 18 or under and you require urgent help and advice, then please contact Childline on 0800 1111. Their helpline is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. 

  • For those aged 25 and under, you can get essential information and support by contacting The Mix on 0808 808 4994. Their helpline is available every day, 3pm - 12am. 

  • If you are 25 and under and you need support in a mental health crisis, then contact the YoungMinds Textline. You can access support 24/7 by texting YM to 85258
