About the Event

The Manual Handling awareness session is aimed at Carers who assist with moving and handling the person they care for. The session will be interactive, with both taught and practical elements tailored to the needs of the Carers present.  Small handling aids will be demonstrated and used in the practical session.

Key topics include:

  • Awareness of how the back works and what increases therisk of musculoskeletal injury
  • Principles of manual handling risk assessment techniques
  • Clarify unsafe manual handling techniques
  • Awareness of how the back works and what increases risk musculoskeletal injury 
  • Principles of safer handling
  • Principles of manual handling risk assessment techniques 
  • Clarify unsafe manual handling techniques 
  • Practical demonstration and experience of manual handling tasks 
  • Case studies and problem solving 

The session is designed to respond to the needs of the Carers present and participants are invited to share their experiences and challenges.

Participation in practical activities will be at the particpiant's discretion, bearing in mind any health issues or preferences.

Participants are encouraged to wear loose comfortableclothing they can move in, such as t-shirts, tracksuit trousersand flat shoes or trainers.

This is a blended session for those who are not able to attend in person, however we highly recommend you attend this practicle session in person if you can.

Carers Connect offers you the opportunity to take a break from your caring role to socialise with other Carers in an informal space. 

Carers Connect runs every Thursday as a blended session, so you may attend in person at the Centre or online.  

Our regular wellbeing and themed Specials, offer a guest  speaker on a variety of topics (please get in touch if you have any requests).   Please get in touch if you have any requests.
