A message from the London Borough of Sutton:
Sutton Carers Centre in partnership with the Council hosted a series of focus groups over 2024 and 2025 that helped to shape Sutton's Carers Strategy. To oversee the actions of the strategy, a new Carers Partnership Board (CPB) is being put into place. The CPB membership will include Carers alongside officers and professionals from across health and social care who helped to develop the strategy.
To help make sure that Carers' voices sit at the centre of decision-making, Rachael MacLeod as the CEO of the Sutton Carers Centre is the new Board's Co-Chair and we are looking for 2-3 more Carers to join us! As a Carer Rep, you would be joining representatives from across health and social care organisations to both help review Carer Strategy progress and contribute to any new programmes put into place to recognise and support Carers across Sutton.
Meetings will be every 6 weeks. These will mostly be online, virtual meetings and last between 1-2 hours during the day or twilight.
Support to Carer Reps will be available, including: briefings before meetings to answer questions about agenda items and help put together any ideas you may have or contributions you'd like to make during the meeting.
We are looking for Carer Reps from different backgrounds and types of caring, such as Carers looking after people with mental health conditions, Parent Carers, Young Carers.
As a new Board for Sutton and recognising the unpredictability of a caring role, we will work with Carer Reps to explore additional ways to make joining in Carers Partnership Board meetings and activities more accessible. This could include virtual forums which also open up topics for discussion to more Carers and provide a way for Carers who are unable to attend meetings to participate, translating assistance and individualised support or personalised skills training.
In the first instance, if you'd like to find out more about putting your name forward to be a Carer Rep, or to offer your ideas about more ways Carers could be involved, please contact Rachael MacLeod on jointheconversation@suttoncarerscentre.org, 07875 103056 (calls, iMessage or WhatsApp) or 020 8296 5611.
