Today, Vicky and Ali visited the Queen Mary's Children’s ward as part of Young Carers Action Day to raise awareness for Young Carers and the services that we provide at Sutton Carers Centre.
We were introduced to staff and met various nurses based on inpatient and outpatient wards, including a nurse in charge, ward clerks and play staff. Many of the staff had not heard of SCC and they were so grateful for our time and details of our service so they could pass this on to patients and their families.
We spoke to families of children, aware that we couldn't see everyone due to risk of infection, to talk about what we do, which was gratefully received. After a little persuasion we got some great pics of some of the staff and raised awareness with them as well some great children, mums and dads.
We even bumped into ex-Young Carer, Jess who was a huge advocate for our Young Carers Service. She attended the Young Carers Festival 16 years ago when she was 18 and now works with kids on the ward as a Play Specialist. What a great story for a Futures theme this year!
