Sutton College’s free five-week "New to Caring" course starts on Wednesday November the 4th, offering expert guidance on finances, wellbeing, and practical support for Sutton residents caring for older adults.

Enrolment is now open for the fourth cohort of the free “Carers course”.

While caring for a loved one can be highly rewarding, it can often be overwhelming at the beginning. Whether you are looking after a partner, an older parent, or a friend, it’s common to feel that you “don’t know what you don’t know,” when it comes to finding support.

Sutton College is welcoming its fourth cohort for the “Carers Course” this November. Designed specifically for those supporting older adults, this course was built entirely around what local carers said they needed most: a clear, step-by-step guide on where to go for support.

Course sessions bring in local experts to talk to you about what matters most:

  • Financial matters: Facilitated by Citizens Advice Sutton and Sutton Carers Centre

  • Home adaptations and assistive aides: Facilitated by Occupational Therapy

  • Looking after yourself: Facilitated by Sutton Talking Therapies

  • Moving and handling for Carers: Facilitated by Occupational Therapy

  • Planning ahead: Facilitated by Admiral Nurses and Sutton Carers Centre

The course runs on Wednesdays from 12-1:30 pm for 5 weeks..

Eligibility

  1. Carers must be providing unpaid care for an older adult, such as a partner or family member, and

  2. The Carer or person cared must have a Sutton postcode OR be registered with a Sutton GP.
