Sutton Carers Chorus: A New Monthly Singing Group for Carers

Take Time for Yourself Through the Joy of Singing

Being a Carer is one of the most important roles anyone can undertake. While caring for a loved one can be deeply rewarding, it can also be demanding, leaving little time to focus on your own wellbeing.

That's why Sutton Carers Centre is delighted to introduce Sutton Carers Chorus, a free monthly singing group created especially for unpaid Carers. Led by experienced singing facilitator and fellow Carer Catherine Pestano, the chorus offers a welcoming space where Carers can come together, relax, connect and enjoy the uplifting power of music.

First 3 dates: September 24th, October 29th and November 26th with an informal performance at the Carers Christmas Party in December, the likes of which was hugely enjoyed last year.

No Singing Experience Required

One of the most common concerns people have about joining a singing group is whether they can sing. The good news is that no previous singing experience is needed.

Sutton Carers Chorus is not about auditions, performances or perfection. It is about enjoyment, connection and taking a well-deserved break from caring responsibilities Whether you sing regularly or simply enjoy listening to music, everyone is welcome.

Each session will include a mix of familiar songs, new favourites and opportunities to sing together in a friendly and supportive environment.

Meet Your Facilitator

Catherine Pestano (pictured) is an experienced singing facilitator and fellow Carer who understands the importance of creating safe, welcoming spaces for Carers.

Catherine brings warmth, encouragement and a genuine passion for helping people discover the joy and wellbeing benefits of singing. Her relaxed approach ensures that everyone can participate at their own pace and feel comfortable from the moment they walk through the door.

Why Singing?

Research has shown that singing can help reduce stress, improve mood and create a sense of connection with others. For many Carers, finding opportunities to socialise and take time for themselves can be difficult.

Singing together provides a chance to:

  • Take a break from caring responsibilities

  • Meet and connect with other Carers

  • Improve confidence and wellbeing

  • Enjoy a creative and uplifting activity

  • Feel part of a supportive community

Most importantly, it provides dedicated time for Carers to focus on themselves and have fun.

What previous participants have said

Participants have described Catherine's Carers' Choirs as:

"...exactly what I needed. The session gave me time to focus on myself for a change, and I left feeling refreshed and energised."

"I was nervous about joining because I don't consider myself a singer, but everyone was so welcoming. It was great fun and I met other Carers who understood my situation."

"Catherine made everyone feel comfortable from the moment we arrived. There was no pressure, just encouragement, laughter and great music."

These experiences highlight what Sutton Carers Chorus is all about: creating a positive, welcoming environment where Carers can relax, recharge and enjoy themselves.
